The Missed Work Ledger

What winnable work did you miss, decline, or lose last quarter?

Most owners can’t answer that with a number. Not because the misses weren’t real, but because nobody ever counted them. The ledger is where you count them: one page, four lines, one conservative dollar column, about ten minutes with numbers you already know.

Built for owner-operators of $1M to $20M businesses who watched winnable work slip last quarter and never put a number on it.

  • “I really think I’m missing out on a million dollars.” A contractor said that to me about the work he never had time to bid. His number, not mine. And the part that stuck with me: he could feel it, but he had never once counted it.
  • The jobs you didn’t quote. The inquiries that sat all weekend. The work you turned down because nobody had the hours. The service you quietly stopped offering because it was too manual to be worth it. All four are countable, and you already own every record you’d need.
  • “We’re leaving money on the table” is a feeling. You can say it every quarter and never do a thing about it, because a feeling gives you nothing to act on. A number in your own handwriting is different. It sits there until you deal with it.
  • The ledger isn’t software, and it isn’t a lead service. It’s one printed page that asks for nothing you don’t already have. That’s why it takes ten minutes and not an afternoon.
  • The rules are printed on the page because the number has to hold up: count each miss once, price it at the low end, and write nothing you couldn’t defend to your accountant. A number you don’t trust is no better than the feeling you started with.

What’s inside

  • A line for each way work slipsWork you never quoted, inquiries that never got a same-day answer, work you declined for capacity, and work you quietly stopped offering. Each line names the exact record to pull from, so you’re never staring at a blank.
  • A dollar column you could defendOne conservative value per line, with the rules printed beside it. The total is a number you could hand your accountant without flinching.
  • A ten-minute lookup, not homeworkEvery figure already lives somewhere you own: the quote log, the proposal folder, the voicemail, the calendar. The method notes point at each one.
  • The honest limit, in writingA count tells you what slipped. It can’t tell you which misses you could do something about or what to fix first, and the ledger says so on the page instead of pretending. You’ll know exactly what you’re holding, and what you’re not.

Before you ask for it

Questions

What exactly do I get?

One page, sent as a PDF. Four counting lines, the conservative pricing rules printed beside them, and short method notes naming where each figure already lives in your records. You fill it in yourself, on paper or in a spreadsheet, the same afternoon it arrives.

Is this software I have to learn?

No. It’s a page and a method. You bring the numbers and do the arithmetic yourself, on paper if you like, and nothing gets uploaded anywhere. I never see your figures unless you decide to tell me.

What if I don’t track any of this?

Most owners don’t, and the ledger assumes as much. The rules only allow figures from your records or your own confident recall, and you’ll be surprised how many misses you can name from memory once the line asks for them. If one stays blank because nothing was ever written down, that’s a finding too. The misses nobody records are the easiest ones to keep repeating.

What happens to my email address?

You get the ledger, and one short follow-up from me asking what your number came out to, because I’m genuinely curious. That’s it. No drip sequence, no list rental, and unsubscribe is one click.

So what’s the catch?

The catch is one paragraph. The only thing I sell is a paid diagnostic called the AI Leverage Audit, and the email that delivers your ledger includes a few sentences on what it is and who it’s for. Read them or don’t. The ledger stands on its own either way, and if your number comes out smaller than you feared, you got good news for free.
